Keynote speakers:
Dr. Scott Weed
Lecture Overview:
We're doctors, plain and simple. When you signed up for this job, I'm guessing you were like me and didn't realize the complete ramifications of that title. Whether you're a resident in a training program, just starting out in practice, or in the twilight of your career, you feel the weight of being a doctor. Don't ever lose that feeling--and don't let it bring you down either. In this lecture we will uncover principles and strategies (both philosophical and clinical) that will bring you joy and fulfillment in practice.
Objectives
The objectives of this lecture are:
- Define medical ethics
- Relate our clinical strategies to ethics
- Review clinical and personal outcomes and common problems with obtaining and understanding them
- Establish the argument that joy and fulfillment in clinical practice and life are tied to the performance of our professional duty
What attendees can expect to learn:
- Attendees will learn how to view their clinical decisions and performance through the lens of professional duty. They will examine their own aims and goals and assess how well they align with a doctor's ethical responsibilities. Despite the freedom they have in choosing how they practice, participants will understand the consequences that attend various types of decisions. Upon leaving the lecture, participants will have a better strategy to achieve fulfillment and joy in their current professional situation, be it a postgraduate training program or clinical practice.
